ASVAB Format

The ASVAB testing format allows a total of 200 test questions. These questions are set up within an 8 mini-test format. A total test time 200 should be allowed. The exam will take 3 hours to complete. The actual questions take up 134 minutes of the test.

You are allowed to answer each question without time constraints.

Question 1: What is the maximum amount of time allowed to take the ASVAB test?

Answer: 134 minutes for the test, however 180 minutes are required for proper administration of the ASVAB test

Question 2: How do I prepare for the time constraints on the ASVAB test?

Answer: Allow each question a reasonable amount of time and thought. Treat each question with the same level of difficulty. Don’t start to panic and begin to rush through the questions. Review the time constraints identified under the ASVAB breakdown chart.

Question 3: What is the maximum amount of time that I could spend on each question on the ASVAB test?

Answer: If you take the maximum number of questions a safe time would be about 20-30 seconds per question on the ASVAB electronics section, word knowledge section, shop section, and mathematics section.

Question 5: Does the ASVAB contain coding speed and numerical operations sections?

Answer: No. Both the coding speed and numerical operations sections of the ASVAB have been discontinued from the ASVAB.
